This art prayer is one suggested response to reading Matthew 6:9-13 in our Large Group Event on the Practice of Prayer. 

Materials Needed

• Art supplies: pencils with erasers, markers or colored pencils, etc.
• Printed copy of the Lord’s Prayer (next page) or blank paper

Instructions

• Follow the prompts below to create your own illustration of the Lord’s Prayer, either by sketching around a printout of the Lord’s Prayer or on a blank piece of paper. 
• As you draw, talk to God about what you are thinking, or say whatever comes to mind in response to the prompts. He wants to hear from you!

Prompts

1. Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be Thy name: Think about who God is, and how you want to praise Him today. Draw yourself praising God (what does that look like for you?), with words, phrases, or sketches around you that describe who God is and what He has done.  
2. Thy Kingdom come, Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven: Imagine what it will be like when Jesus returns and brings His kingdom fully to earth… let yourself long for that day as you write “Come, Lord Jesus” and draw around it some of the things you’re most looking forward to.
3. Give us this day our daily bread: Draw the things you need each day to live: food, water, a home, etc. Thank God for the ways He has provided, and ask Him for anything you are lacking.
4. Forgive us our sins, as we forgive those who sin against us: Consider how far we fall short of God’s coming kingdom, and confess to Jesus the sin in your life. Draw yourself bowed before Him with open hands as you seek His forgiveness, and ask for help in forgiving others.
5. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil: Think about the things that tempt you (it could be literal things, or attitudes you are tempted to have, like anger)… draw something to represent them, and then cross them out with the Ø symbol. Ask God for help in that specific area. You may wish to also draw a broken chain, symbolizing your freedom from it.
6. For Thine is the Kingdom, and the power, and the glory forever and ever. Amen: Draw the heavenly throne as you return to praising God. Be as creative as you’d like, representing His power and glory with light shining from the throne, angels surrounding it, maybe the tree of life–whatever helps you feel awe as you praise Him.
