About the Song
Create in Me, O God is a song of prayer, specifically a prayer of confession and desire that God would give us a clean heart. It is easy to hurry through life day after day and not take time to pray that our hearts would be clean, not only for our relationship with God, but also so that we would live well with the people we see each day.
Based on Psalm 51:10-12, a Psalm written by King David, Create in Me, O God is written in a responsorial/echo style. One person or small group sings each line and another group or entire congregation sings the same line in return. In that way, children could sing the initial line each time and lead the congregation could respond with their prayer of confession. Many churches observe a time of confession each week and others during a service that included the Lord’s Supper, which would be appropriate times to use Create in Me, O God.
